Quick Tip: Resetting Check Engine Light

How to properly reset your check engine light after repairs.

Resetting the Check Engine Light

After completing repairs that triggered a check engine light, you'll need to clear the code. Here are the proper methods.

Method 1: OBD-II Scanner

The proper way to clear codes is with an OBD-II scanner. Connect to the diagnostic port, read codes, and select "Clear Codes."

Method 2: Disconnecting Battery

As a last resort, disconnecting the battery for 15 minutes can reset the ECU. Note: This will also reset other settings like radio presets.

Important Warning

Never clear codes without addressing the underlying issue. The light will return, and you may cause additional damage.
